I don’t know what the weather will be like when you read this, but I’m writing this on March 12, in the midst of the worst storm we’ve had this winter in what has been the harshest winter we’ve had in years. Spring officially starts in just a few days. But winter keeps hanging on. I wonder when it will end.
Yesterday I noticed shoots from a couple of bulbs in my garden were poking through. It was a fleeting moment. They are already covered with snow. Yet I do know the winter will end and the spring will come along bringing new life.
We are currently in the midst of Lent. Lent is a time when we look at our lives, admit what is lacking, and seek to open ourselves to new or renewed life in Christ. We may look at ourselves and the world around us and wonder if there is any hope. As Christians we believe that Jesus was born, lived, died on a cross and rose again conquering evil and death and initiating the Kingdom of God. Yet still we see brokenness and evil everywhere we turn. Even so, there are signs, fleeting though they may be, that what we see around us is not the ultimate reality. We see it whenever we see a selfless act of love. The day is coming when all will be set right. And ultimately Easter confirms it. Christ is risen! Alleluia!
May you know the joy of life in the risen Lord today and always.
In Christ’s love,
Pastor Anne
